Nitrous oxide, commonly called “laughing gas,” is a mild sedative inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. It works quickly to help you feel at ease during your treatment. Whether you’ve had a past negative experience, struggle with dental anxiety, or simply feel uneasy about treatment, nitrous oxide can help you feel relaxed and comfortable. Once your procedure is complete, we’ll turn off the gas, and usually within 5–10 minutes, you can safely drive yourself home.

How much is nitrous oxide?
Nitrous oxide at Plaistow Dental costs $115 for the first hour and $20 for every additional 10 minutes. You can request laughing gas for any procedure.

How soon does laughing gas wear off?
The effects of nitrous oxide fade within about 5–10 minutes after removing the mask, and you’ll feel completely back to normal.

Do I need someone to drive me home after nitrous oxide sedation?
No. Because nitrous oxide wears off so quickly, most patients can safely drive themselves home or return to work immediately after their appointment.
